DevLog – Apple and Me. A Story in Three Acts

The iOS app is finally through. Third attempt, several weeks, and a few more grey hairs.

To be honest, it was less of a technical problem and more of a bureaucratic one. Apple rejected the Twitch login twice because they didn’t understand why a Twitch community game offers only a Twitch login. The answer is actually self-explanatory, but apparently, it didn’t explain itself. On top of that, I had “alpha” in the version number, which violates some guideline whose purpose I’d rather not dwell on.

What wore me down the most wasn’t the back-and-forth itself, but the pace. A rejection would arrive within one or two days. My corrections would be submitted just as fast. And then, sometimes, nothing would happen for a week. No feedback, no response—just silence. As a solo developer with limited energy reserves, that is its own specific kind of strain.

In the end, everything was resolved and communicated. The app is out, Legends of Arthengard is now available on both platforms, and I’ve learned that Apple guidelines sometimes have less to do with the app and more to do with the right wording in the right field. The main thing is: it’s running.

P.S. We are now at version 1.2. Why? Because Apple insisted on a new version.
